Big earthquake in West Bengal politics: Rebellious stance of 58 MLAs in TMC, political turmoil over leader of opposition
Kolkata. The ongoing internal discord within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has now come to the fore. 58 rebel MLAs of the party on Wednesday submitted a letter to Assembly Speaker Rathin Bose demanding recognition of Rutubrata Banerjee as the leader of opposition in the Assembly. However, the interesting thing is that in the letter everyone has described Mamata Banerjee as the party leader and assembly leader, which indicates that the dissatisfaction is directly regarding the organizational leadership and the role of Abhishek Banerjee.
According to sources, the letter of rebel MLAs also includes a proposal to make Sandipan Saha, Javed Khan and Shiuli Saha as deputy leaders and Akhruzzaman as chief whip. Assembly sources said that the Speaker has accepted the letter, but the final decision will be taken only after verification of all the signatures.
How did the controversy start?
The controversy in the party started when a letter was sent in support of senior MLA Shobhandev Chattopadhyay for the post of Leader of the Opposition. It is alleged that many signatures in that letter were found to be fake, after which an FIR was registered and the police and CID started investigation.
After this matter, Rutubrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha were expelled from the party, after which dissatisfaction increased and many MLAs openly rebelled.
Rebel camp MLA Arunabh Sen said that even today he considers Mamata Banerjee as his leader, but does not accept the leadership of Abhishek Banerjee.
Political turmoil increased due to growing rebel camp-
On Wednesday, Rutubrata Banerjee reached the Assembly with the support letter of 58 MLAs, after which the stir in the politics of the state has intensified. Due to this development, speculations about the formation of ‘New Trinamool’ and new balance of power in the Assembly have also intensified.
Although these claims have not been officially confirmed yet, the names of many senior leaders are being linked to the rebel camp.
Battle for balance of power in the organization-
Political analysts believe that this dispute is a fight for the balance of power within the organization rather than a direct split in the party. However, no official response has been given by TMC on this entire incident.
At present, all eyes are on the decision of the Assembly Speaker. If the claims of 58 MLAs are considered valid, it could prove to be a major change in the politics of West Bengal.
