Big News: In the selection trials of the Senior World Wrestling Championship to be held in Delhi on September 14 Vinesh Phogat will not be able to participate. The Delhi High Court has refused to grant her interim relief to participate in the trials. On Thursday night, Justice Swarna Kant Sharma dismissed Vinesh's plea seeking interim relief.
In its order, the court clarified that the criteria mentioned in the circular dated September 7, 2026 will apply equally to all. On 7 September, a circular was issued for the trials of the 2026 Senior World Wrestling Championships. As per the rules, players who have won medals in prescribed events, participated in national training camps and selected for the 2026 U20 World Championship are eligible. She argues that we are absent from certain competitions as pregnancy, delivery and post-natal health are improving. She also said she was barred from participating in the Senior Open Ranking Tournament at Gonda after the WFI issued a show cause notice disqualifying her.

The Delhi High Court in its statement said, 'It is of utmost importance for the country to ensure that the representatives of the country are selected through a fair, uniform and performance-based process.'
The court also noted that earlier in May, a High Court bench had allowed Phogat to participate in the Asian Games selection trials. A show cause notice regarding the alleged misconduct during those trials is still pending. The Bar and Bench quoted Justice Sharma as saying, 'WFI's new eligibility criteria apply equally to all players and were not specifically designed to target Phogat.'
