State Coordinator Sanjay Sharma said that approximately 3000 employees from around 400 bank branches in Varanasi will participate in the strike. Bank employees and officials have been raising their voices for a long time regarding their pending demands. Efforts have been made by the organization at various levels to resolve the demands. However, as the expected solution did not materialize, a nationwide strike was decided.
Meanwhile, the main demands of the strike include the introduction of a five-day work week. Bank employees have been demanding implementation of five-day banking system for a long time. Apart from this, there is also a demand to rectify the loopholes in the Performance Based Incentive (PLI) scheme and ensure that the employees and executives get proper benefits related to it.

The demand for a permanent solution to the pending pension issues is also one of the major issues of the strike. Union leaders say a permanent solution to various pension-related issues is needed to relieve employees and retirees from long-standing problems.

SBI Staff Association Deputy General Secretary Manoj Singh said that the union officials have appealed to all bank employees and officers to join the strike in solidarity. He said that the bank employees across the country will participate in the strike in solidarity to articulate the demands of the employees. The organization has also appealed to the employees in Varanasi to make the strike successful.
