Big question after America-Iran deal, Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei is still underground, under whose signature is the historic treaty being signed?
After a long-running tension, the way has been cleared for a historic agreement between America and Iran. There has been agreement between the two countries on the disputed issues and agreements have also been signed at the digital level. Now on June 19, the delegations of both the countries will sit face to face in Geneva, Switzerland and sign the official MoU.
However, the biggest question amid this entire process is why Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei has not yet appeared in public and who is leading the agreement in his absence.
Who signed the digital agreement?
According to American media reports, the digital agreement has been signed by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance on behalf of America. On behalf of Iran, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baghar Ghalibaf has approved the agreement.
Although the Iranian government has not officially confirmed the names of the signatories, Ghalibaf described the agreement on social media as a “major step towards Iran’s ultimate victory.”
Who will do the final signing in Geneva?
From the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baghar Ghalibaf are likely to play a prominent role in the meeting to be held in Geneva on June 19.
These two leaders have been representing Iran in almost all the talks held with America since the ceasefire. Even in the talks held in Pakistan, Aragchi and Ghalibaf were the main faces of the Iranian side.
Why has Mujtaba Khamenei still not come forward?
Despite the end of the war and the progress of the agreement with America, Mujtaba Khamenei has still not appeared in public.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently clarified in a high-level meeting that all the agreements being made with America are being made in accordance with the policies and guidelines set by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The President said that whatever decisions the negotiating team has to take will be within the framework set by the supreme leadership of the Islamic Republic. However, he did not tell where Mujtaba Khamenei is at present and when he will appear in public.
Will Mujtaba come among the public in July?
According to Iranian media reports, the funeral rituals of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei may be held in the first week of July. It is being told that he will be laid to rest in Mashhad on 9th July.
Political analysts believe that Mujtaba Khamenei may appear in public for the first time during his father’s funeral and may be seen formally taking charge of Iran.
Agreement expected to reduce regional tension
If the agreement is finally signed in Geneva on June 19, the long-running conflict between the US and Iran could largely end. With this, it is expected that a new chapter will be started regarding relief from economic sanctions, energy trade and regional stability.
At present, the eyes of the world are fixed on the Geneva meeting and the possible public return of Mujtaba Khamenei.
