After removing the movie, ZEE5 released an official statement thanking the viewers. The post-screening response to ‘Sutlej’ is very important to us, the statement said. We sincerely thank all the audience for the love the film has received.

The platform further clarified that we strongly support ‘Sutlej’ and the creative vision behind it. However, due to the current situation, the film will not be available for streaming in India until further notice. We are taking legal and necessary steps to make the film available to the audience again.’

A controversial three-year journey

The film’s journey was controversial from the beginning. The film, originally titled ‘Punjab 95’, was sent for censors in 2022. At that time, the Censor Board had suggested as many as 127 changes (cuts). Due to this, the release of the film was delayed a lot.

After almost three years of legal process, the makers decided to release the film directly on OTT, renaming the film to ‘Sutlej’ without any cuts. However, just two days after its release, streaming in India was stopped, which has once again sparked controversy around the film.
