Big stake in MP Rajya Sabha elections! BJP has fielded its third candidate, now everyone’s eyes are on the third seat.

New Delhi: The election race for the third Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh has taken a dramatic turn and has now become a hotly contested political contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. BJP has made Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Welfare Board Chairman Mahesh Kewat its third candidate. Kevat will face Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan and this election is becoming very exciting. With this move, BJP has added a new dimension to an already competitive contest.

Mahesh Kevat has been associated with the BJP organization for a long time and has held various responsibilities in the party. He has worked on positions like District Minister and District Vice President in Tikamgarh district. Apart from this, he has also played an active role in the national executive of the party. Presently he is the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Welfare Board. According to sources, his name was finalized after an important meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday evening. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, State BJP President and many senior leaders of the organization were present in this meeting. After a discussion that lasted for about an hour, the party decided to field him as the third candidate.

Congress’s concern increased

After the announcement of BJP’s third candidate, Congress’s concern seems to be increasing. There is also a strong discussion in political circles that Congress is preparing a special strategy to keep its MLAs united. The party fears that a situation like cross voting may arise during voting. Sources say that Congress is also considering sending its MLAs to another state to keep them safe and protect them from any kind of political turmoil.

What does the mathematics of the assembly say?

There are total 230 members in Madhya Pradesh Assembly. Of these, BJP has 164 MLAs, while Congress has 63 MLAs. To win a Rajya Sabha seat, a candidate needs 58 first preference votes. On the basis of its numerical strength, BJP can easily win two seats. However, even after ensuring two seats, it still has 48 additional votes. In such a situation, it may need additional support or possible cross voting to win the third seat. This is the reason why this match is considered very interesting.

Candidates announced for other states also

BJP has announced its candidates not only for Madhya Pradesh but also for other states. M Nagaraja has been made the candidate from Karnataka. Lingaraj Patil and Raghu Kautilya have been fielded for the Legislative Council elections. The party leadership believes that these candidates will play an important role in further strengthening the organization. These names have been formally announced after the approval of the Central Election Committee of BJP.
