Big success of security forces in Shopian: Top Lashkar commander Zakir Ganai killed, name was also linked to Pahalgam attack
Srinagar. Security forces have achieved major success in the anti-terrorism operation in Shopian district of South Kashmir. Top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Zakir Ganai has been killed in a joint action by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF. Weapons have also been recovered from him. At present, an intensive search operation is going on in the entire area in search of another terrorist.
The operation was going on for four days-
Security agencies had received concrete intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Meemandar area of Shopian. After this, four days ago, the Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) started a joint anti-terrorism operation.
Security forces cordoned off the entire area and conducted a search operation at possible hideouts of the terrorists. Lashkar commander Zakir Ganai was killed during the encounter, while one of his associates is still absconding, whose search is on.
Terrorists were seen in CCTV-
According to officials, on July 3, two suspected terrorists were seen in surveillance cameras installed in a dense garden in Mimandar area. After this, the security forces surrounded the entire area spread over seven villages and started a large-scale search operation.
Army’s counter-insurgency unit Victor Force had also deployed additional troops to block all possible escape routes of the terrorists.
Weapon recovered, search for second terrorist continues-
Weapons have also been recovered along with the dead body of the killed terrorist. Security agencies are continuously conducting operations in search of another terrorist. Security arrangements have been tightened in the entire area.
Name was also linked to Pahalgam attack-
According to the records of security agencies, the slain terrorist Zakir Ganai was a resident of Kulgam district of South Kashmir and was associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba since the year 2024. His name was also linked to the Pahalgam attack.
Whereas, his companion Latif, who is a resident of Kulgam, had joined the terrorist organization last year. Security agencies are running a search operation for him.
Security officials say that the campaign against terrorism will continue and joint operations will be intensified to completely destroy the network of terrorists operating in the valley.
