The 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) completely closed its data submission window this week. Previously, the Commission had also ended the process for submitting important suggestions and memoranda on June 15th. However, the Commission’s consultation process remains unabated, as the panel has already planned key meetings and state visits in the coming months, including August and September 2026, in major cities across the country, including Delhi, Chennai, Puducherry, and Chandigarh.
As a reminder, just last month, the Commission extended the deadline for various central, state, and Union Territory (UT) departments and ministries to submit their data through the 8th CPC online data portal to July 31, 2026. This extension provided significant additional time for all stakeholders to complete their paperwork and online processes.
Only online portal approved
Throughout this process, the Commission has made it clear that data submissions will only be accepted through the official portal. The Commission has also strongly stated that “no physical data, Excel sheets, hard copies, or emails will be considered.”
These Commission’s decisions and recommendations will directly impact more than 10 million people across the country. This number includes approximately 5 million central government employees and approximately 6.5 million central government pensioners, including personnel from the defense and railway departments, and many retired employees. All of them are keenly watching the new Commission’s arrival to determine the significant increase in their dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR).
A series of meetings and visits continues across the country
The 8th Pay Commission has been holding meetings with various stakeholders since April this year. During April, May, June, and July, the Commission visited several states and met with various stakeholders. Last week, the Commission officially announced meetings scheduled for Chandigarh, Delhi, Chennai, and Puducherry.
The panel is continuously gathering valuable input from labor representatives, various ministries, pension bodies, central organizations, and employee unions to build a broad consensus within society. Only after carefully analyzing all this data and information will a final decision be taken on the allowances, new pension formula, and salary structure for the respective employee and pensioner groups.
When will the final report of the 8th Pay Commission come?
According to the plan, the commission will present its final recommendations to the government on November 3, 2025, approximately 18 months after its official formation. This means that the panel’s final recommendations could be fully finalized by February or April 2027. The meetings currently underway are crucial, as the suggestions made by various representatives will play a key role in shaping the commission’s deliberations going forward.
Full schedule of upcoming visits and meetings
- Delhi (August 7 and 10, 2026): The Commission will hold face-to-face interactions with various employees’ unions, federations and unions of the Central Government and Union Territories on August 7 and 10 (i.e. Friday and Monday) in the capital Delhi.
- Chennai (September 7-8, 2026): The Commission will be visiting Chennai on September 7-8 (Monday and Tuesday). Stakeholders from Tamil Nadu who wish to interact with the Commission in Chennai may submit their appointment requests on or before August 18.
- Puducherry (September 9, 2026): The Commission will arrive in Puducherry immediately thereafter on Wednesday, September 9. Only stakeholders from the Union Territory of Puducherry can seek appointments to attend the meeting with the Commission there by August 18.
- Chandigarh (September 16-18, 2026): The Commission will visit Chandigarh from September 16 to 18. Concerned stakeholders from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh UT can apply for their appointment on or before August 25.
Further, although no official date for the visit to Mumbai, Maharashtra has been announced yet, the Railway Ministry had informed last month itself that the Commission intends to visit various Railway departments under Central Railway Zone in Mumbai to get first-hand experience of the working conditions of the employees working there at the ground level.
