Patna. Bihar Government is preparing to implement Bihar State Cooperative Policy-2026 to give new impetus to rural development and local economy. The objective of this new policy, which is being prepared on the lines of National Cooperative Policy-2025, is to strengthen cooperatives in villages, increase employment opportunities and economically empower farmers, women and youth.
Every village will become ‘Cooperative Village’
The biggest goal of the new policy is to develop every village in the state as a ‘Cooperative Village’. The government wants that at least one cooperative unit should be active in every Panchayat, so that the villagers can get the benefits of farming, self-employment, marketing and financial services at the local level. Along with this, a plan has also been made to develop some villages as model cooperative villages.
Cooperative societies will expand
At present thousands of cooperative societies are functioning in the state. Under the new policy, a target has been set to increase their number by about 30 percent. The government believes that connecting more people to cooperatives will increase income in rural areas and provide new expansion to economic activities.
The scope of packs will be bigger
The government does not want to limit PACS and other cooperative institutions to agriculture only. Under the new policy, they will also be encouraged to work in dairy, food processing, drinking water packaging, tourism, green energy, taxi service, insurance and other new sectors. This is expected to create new opportunities for employment and self-employment at the local level in the villages.
Focus on women and youth
In the new policy, special emphasis has been laid on increasing the participation of women and youth. There are preparations to run a special campaign to increase the membership of women in cooperative societies, connect them with economic activities and make the deprived sections self-reliant. This is expected to give new strength to economic empowerment in rural areas.
Local products will get a bigger market
The government will also strengthen the branding, packaging and marketing of products manufactured through cooperative societies. The aim is to take the local products of Bihar not only to the national but also to the international market. This can help in increasing the income of farmers, artisans and rural entrepreneurs.
