All metro stations have been closed till further orders
New Delhi. Thousands of people faced huge problems during the morning rush hour in Delhi on Wednesday as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) closed 16 metro stations citing security reasons amid CJP protests. Many office-bound commuters had to change their routes midway, with some getting down at unfamiliar stations and scrambling for alternative transport.
On Wednesday morning, DMRC said Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirtha, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium metro stations have been closed till further orders.
This step of DMRC has been taken amid the ongoing protests of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. Earlier on Monday, metro services were similarly affected. Passengers said that metro services were continuing on many routes, but trains were not stopping at the closed stations. Due to this, the passengers were left with no option but to go further and then return by road.
A passenger named Vrinda, traveling through the Central Secretariat, said that the protesters had gathered near the station premises, causing confusion among the passengers.
He said, “Protesters had gathered at the Central Secretariat metro station. Many of them gathered near the exit gate and were raising slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’. There was an atmosphere of great uncertainty and people did not understand whether they would be able to get out of the station or not.
Another passenger traveling on the Yellow Line said that through announcements being made in the train, passengers were being informed that they would not be allowed to alight at stations between Delhi Gate and Khan Market.
The closure of 16 metro stations as part of security measures in view of the protests largely affected commuter movement in central Delhi during peak office hours. According to reports, train change facility is available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations.
