Bitter gourd is no less than a boon for health, it gives many amazing benefits.

New Delhi. Bitter gourd is such a vegetable that the number of people who like and dislike it is almost equal. But everyone believes that bitter gourd proves to be very helpful in keeping every part of the body healthy, from the stomach to the brain. Bitter gourd is rich in antibiotic and antiviral properties. Vitamin C found in it increases the immunity of our body.

The scientific name of bitter gourd is mordica in Latin and it is known as bitter gourd in English. Its plant does not have a stem, it is a bell shaped plant, which is green in colour. It is very bitter in taste. Apart from being a good vegetable, bitter gourd also has divine medicinal properties. It is of two types in size, big and small bitter gourd. Big bitter gourds are available in the summer season while small bitter gourds are available in the rainy season. Actually, their taste is very bitter, hence most of the people do not like to eat its vegetable. Salt is used to remove its bitterness.

Medicinal properties of bitter gourd
In diseases like small pox, chicken pox and measles, if bitter gourd is boiled and given to the patient, it is very beneficial.




  • Bitter gourd is considered a boon for diabetes patients. They should consume bitter gourd in large quantities. Without removing the bitterness, taking bitter gourd vegetable and its leaves or raw bitter gourd juice regularly in the morning and evening throughout the summer reduces the sugar level in the blood significantly.

    Use of bitter gourd improves the skin and provides relief from any kind of boils and pimples.

    Helps in passing the stool out of the body, along with this it also helps in keeping the urinary tract of the body clean.

    Due to the high amount of Vitamin A present in it, it improves eyesight.

    It also protects from eye disease night blindness. If its leaves are consumed with black pepper, it provides relief from this disease.

    Vitamin C present in large quantities in it maintains the moisture of our body.

    Consuming bitter gourd does not cause constipation and if a person is suffering from constipation then it relieves the complaint of constipation.

    Along with this, bitter gourd also removes the problems of acidity, heartburn and sour belching.

    If a person is suffering from malaria or jaundice, its consumption is very beneficial. If the patient is given grinded bitter gourd leaves or raw bitter gourd mixed with water at least three times a day, he can recover very quickly.

    If someone is suffering from pain and arthritis, if he consumes bitter gourd vegetable three times a day, he will get quick relief.

    If someone is suffering from piles, then grind bitter gourd in a mixer and apply the paste on the affected area gently. Apply this paste regularly before sleeping at night. If someone is suffering from bloody piles, drinking one spoonful of bitter gourd juice mixed with sugar provides relief in bloody piles.

    It removes toxic elements and unnecessary fat produced in the body, hence it is especially helpful in removing obesity.

    If there is burning sensation in any part of the body, juice of bitter gourd leaves should be applied there. Due to its cool nature it gives immediate benefits.

    Bitter gourd juice is also beneficial in removing stomach worms. Due to the abundance of iron present in it, bitter gourd also helps in removing anemia i.e. blood deficiency. Bitter gourd juice destroys all three doshas i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas.
