BJP has intensified organizational and electoral activities in Uttarakhand amid the 'purification' controversy that arose after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's meeting in Haldwani. Party President Nitin Naveen will be on a two-day visit to the state from September 9.

The alleged 'purification' controversy that emerged after the public meeting of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani has further heated up the political atmosphere. Meanwhile, BJP has intensified the efforts to prepare the organization for the elections. BJP President Nitin Naveen will reach Uttarakhand on a two-day visit from September 9.
Nitin Naveen will start his tour from Haldwani. Here he will attend the core committee meeting of the state BJP. The current situation of the organization, booth level preparations and upcoming election strategy are likely to be discussed in the meeting. The party leadership is trying to further strengthen the organization at the grassroots level.
After this, Nitin Naveen will go to Rudrapur on 10th September. Here he will address a public meeting of ex-servicemen. Along with this, he will also communicate with the people of Sikh community. Through this tour, BJP will try to strengthen its hold among different social classes.
Congress continues to attack on 'purification' issue
Congress is continuously targeting BJP over the alleged purification incident after Kharge's meeting in Haldwani. Congress alleges that FIR has not been registered yet in the case. The party is protesting in the state linking it to Dalit respect and social justice.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also written a letter to Union Minister JP Nadda demanding action in the matter. Congress is preparing to raise this issue more vigorously in the coming days.
At the same time, BJP alleges that Congress is giving political color to this matter to divert attention from development issues. It has also been said on behalf of the party that people of Dalit community were performing puja there, hence it is not appropriate to present it as 'purification'.
Eye on 33 percent social equation
Social equations also play an important role in the electoral politics of Uttarakhand. The Scheduled Caste population in the state is said to be about 18.9 percent and the Muslim population is said to be about 14 percent. Including both, this figure comes to about 33 percent.
In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP got about 44.3 percent votes, while Congress got about 37.9 percent votes. The difference in vote share between the two parties was about 6.4 percent.
In such a situation, it will be a big challenge for BJP and Congress to maintain organizational as well as social equations before the 2027 elections. It will become clear in the times to come how big a political issue the Haldwani dispute will become in the upcoming elections.
