BJP announces candidates from Karnataka, MP for Rajya Sabha polls

The BJP has named M Nagaraja and Mahesh Kewat as its candidates for Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, respectively, for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Making the announcement late on Sunday (June 7) night, the party also named Lingaraj Patil and Raghu Kautilya as its candidates for Karnataka Legislative Council elections.

The BJP’s central election committee has approved the names of these candidates, party national general secretary Arun Singh said in a notification.

Cross-voting likely

The Congress has declared Meenakshi Natarajan as its candidate for the Madhya Pradesh seat. With Kewat expected to file his nomination on Monday (June 8), forcing a contest for the third seat, speculations are rife that there will be cross-voting by Congress MLAs against Natarajan during the polls on June 18.

The Rajya Sabha polls for 24 seats in 10 states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur and Karnataka, will be held on June 18.

Election to the Karnataka Legislative Council is also due to be held on June 18.
