Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted parole to two brothers of late mafia and former MP Atiq Ahmed , Ali, lodged in Jhansi jail, and Umar, lodged in Lucknow jail, to attend the funeral of Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of the late Atiq Ahmed.
The body will be buried at the Kasari Masari cemetery on Saturday morning after Aban’s brothers arrive in Prayagraj. Justices Ajay Bhanot and Divesh Chandra Samant, hearing a petition filed by Atiq Ahmed’s sister, Parveen Qureshi, granted parole to Omar and Ahmed to attend Aban’s funeral.
When asked by the bench when the last rites would be performed , Parveen Qureshi said the body would be buried on Saturday morning. Aban and his friend Sonu were killed in a road accident in Jhansi district on Thursday , while three other people in the car were injured and were brought to Prayagraj from a Jhansi hospital last night.
Police said Aban’s body was brought to his aunt Parveen Qureshi’s home in Hatwa village on Friday morning. Aban’s grave has been prepared near Atiq’s grave, which also houses the graves of Atiq’s brother Ashraf and son Asad.
The family members of Aban and a friend, who were victims of the road accident, left for Prayagraj late last night with their bodies and arrived here on Friday morning. After receiving information about the accident in Jhansi on Thursday morning, Atiq ‘s son Azham and the family members of the other injured arrived in Jhansi late that evening. The post-mortem examination was then conducted.
Aban Ahmed, along with some friends , was on his way to visit his brother in Jhansi jail when his speeding SUV lost control on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway in the Poonch police station area, hit a divider, and overturned. Aban Ahmed ( 21) and his friend Sonu ( 25) died in the accident.
Azam , Mohammad Javed, and Umar, who were also in the car, were injured. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead outside a hospital in Prayagraj on April 15 , 2023 , by three men posing as journalists .
