BRICS Summit: PM Modi said – BRICS plays an important role in increasing security cooperation and dealing with common challenges.
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said BRICS has an important role to play in deepening security cooperation in the changing global scenario and tackling common challenges like terrorism, cyber security and emerging technologies. Prime Minister Modi also said that India’s chairmanship of BRICS will focus on advancing practical cooperation, supporting the priorities of the ‘Global South’ and contributing to building a more safe, secure and inclusive world.
The ‘Global South’ refers to countries often referred to as developing, least developed or underdeveloped, located primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Modi made this comment after meeting the National Security Advisors (NSAs) and senior security officials of the BRICS countries.
“Pleased to meet the National Security Advisors and senior security officials of the BRICS countries,” he said in a post on social media platform ‘X’. BRICS has an important role in strengthening security cooperation in the changing global scenario and addressing common challenges ranging from terrorism, cyber security to emerging technologies.
National Security Advisors and senior security officials of BRICS countries are here to participate in the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting. BRICS originally included Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, while Indonesia joined in 2025.
