Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had appeared in court before the verdict. Speaking to the media, he had said, “I will only listen to what the court says. I have nothing in my hands.” The court then acquitted both the accused of the charges. This case had become a topic of discussion across the country. Women wrestlers had made serious allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Due to these allegations, the Bharatiya Janata Party did not field him from the Kaiserganj constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party fielded his son Karan Bhushan Singh in his place. Karan Bhushan Singh won the election, proving that he still has local influence.

Now, after the court acquitted Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, discussions have resumed about his political comeback. Whether he will rejoin active politics in the upcoming elections have caught the attention of political circles. 127 hearings were held in about 1,133 days in this case and Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was on bail since July 20, 2023. Now, the court’s decision has completed an important stage of the judicial process in this much-talked-about case. In May 2024, the court ordered the framing of criminal intimidation charges against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, former head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and former BJP MP. However, the complaint filed by the female wrestler, one of the six complainants, led to his acquittal. The court also ordered the framing of charges against co-accused and former assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, Vinod Tomar.
Delhi Police charges multiple sections
In the chargesheet filed on June 15, the Delhi Police has charged Brij Bhushan Singh under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for molestation of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation. Both the accused are currently out on bail.
