When ‘OMG 2‘ was to be released in 2023, it faced a big controversy from the CBFC. Objections were raised for mixing religious themes and sex education in the film. There was also talk of banning the film. After some changes, OMG 2 received an ‘A’ certificate and was released. Many dialogues and words were changed. Now, Paresh Rawal has commented on that film. The actor said that OMG 2 was his idea, but Akshay Kumar took the script from him and did not even give him credit.
Paresh Rawal has also claimed that if the makers had worked according to his original story, much of the controversy could have been avoided. The actor claims that his story was based on a father-son relationship and did not involve any divine intervention. He also mentioned that after Akshay Kumar became a part of the project, several major changes were made to the script and that is why he decided to walk out of the film.
In an interview with Vicky Lalwani, Paresh Rawal claimed that he had created the original story of the film that became ‘OMG 2’. He shared the idea with director Amit Rai and developed the script with him. However, the story took a different turn after Akshay Kumar joined the project. According to Paresh Rawal, God had no role in the story. He said, “I approached ‘Road to Sangam’ director Amit Rai and asked if he was thinking of making another film. I respect him a lot. I told him that I have an idea. Let’s sit down and write it together. I told him that even though I am not a writer, I can give ideas and help us identify where we are going wrong, because I understand the script to some extent.”

Paresh Rawal further explained, “The story was about a boy whose video goes viral, which makes his life difficult. His father was a tourist guide at the Khajuraho temple. Amit advised him to become a part-time priest at the Mahakal temple. We wrote the script together and also involved expert Dr. Prakash Kothari. We had many meetings, because our aim was to make the film educational and entertaining, not obscene. We were fully involved in the process.”

Speaking further, Paresh Rawal said that when I spoke to Akshay, he had requested me to do this film. But I said no to him. This film is not what I had thought. There was no role for Ishwara in this story. He tried to convince me, but I was involved in the scripting process from the beginning. So I knew exactly how this story should be. So I walked out of this film. Finally, the role of the father was played by Pankad Tripathi in this film, while Akshay Kumar appeared on screen as the messenger of Shiva.
