Odisha government gave the gift of 2% DA increase
The first major decision in this series has come from Odisha. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on May 15 has made a spectacular announcement of 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and pensioners working under the state government. In the official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), it has been made clear that after this new amendment, the DA of the state employees has now directly increased from 58 percent to 60 percent.
It is also a matter of relief that this increase will be considered applicable retrospectively (with arrears) from January 1, 2026 and its cash payment will be made to the employees along with the salary for the month of May. Along with this, the Temporary Increment (TI) for pensioners has also been increased by 2 percent, which will be added to their May pension. This step of the government will provide direct economic benefits to about 8.5 lakh employees and pensioners of the state.

The new government of Tamil Nadu has also not disappointed its employees. The Tamil Nadu government on May 14 threw a big dice to increase the dearness allowance for state government employees and teachers. Under this, DA in the state has also been directly increased from the current 58 percent to 60 percent, which will be considered effective from January 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on social media platform According to the government press release, this masterstroke will directly benefit about 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners of the state. However, this increase in DA will put an additional financial burden of ₹1,230 crore every year on the Tamil Nadu government, to bear which the state government has decided to allocate necessary funds.
Bihar cabinet also approved DA, big benefit to different pay commissions
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet has also given its green signal to a major increase in dearness allowance for the welfare of state government employees and pensioners. In Bihar, DA has been decided according to the employees coming under the purview of different pay commissions. Employees and pensioners covered under the Sixth Central Pay Commission will get a huge jump of 5 percentage points in DA and dearness relief directly from January 1, 2026, after which their DA will increase from 257 percent to 262 percent.
Additionally, there has been a bumper increase in DA by a full 9 percentage points for employees covered under the Fifth Central Pay Commission, taking it straight from 474 per cent to a record high of 483 per cent. At the same time, like other states, the DA of the lucky employees covered under the Seventh Central Pay Commission has also been increased from 58 percent to 60 percent.

After the increase in DA in three states, now the heartbeats of the government employees of West Bengal have increased. State Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has recently given a big signal to the employees by giving information about very important decisions related to DA and salary. The Chief Minister said that the serious issue of implementing the much awaited 7th Pay Commission in the state will be discussed in detail in the second cabinet meeting of the government to be held on May 18 i.e. tomorrow.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari openly said, “Next Monday I am going to hold another big cabinet meeting to take a final decision on many important and pending issues.” There is talk in the political circles that in this cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow, a historic decision of finally giving Dearness Allowance (DA) equal to the central rates to the state government employees and pensioners can be announced. Along with this, the Bengal government can also approve the formation of the new Seventh Pay Commission in the state, which will see a huge and historic jump in the basic salary of the employees.
