Bumrah ruled out of Sri Lanka Test series, Aaqib Nabi gets first chance in Team India

New Delhi. India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) men’s selection committee has included Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi in the Indian senior Test team for the first time in his place.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this in a press release on Monday. According to the BCCI, Bumrah has not yet fully recovered from the left knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against England.

For this reason, he was deemed unavailable for the Sri Lanka tour, and the selection committee named Aaqib Nabi in his place.

This is Aaqib Nabi’s first selection in the Indian senior team. The young fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir has performed brilliantly in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, taking 104 wickets.

This includes 60 wickets in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. Thanks to his excellent performance, Jammu and Kashmir won the Ranji Trophy title for the first time in their history.

Aaqib Nabi recently toured Sri Lanka with the India A team, where he caught the attention of the selectors by taking six wickets in two first-class matches.

India’s revised Test squad against Sri Lanka:
Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnur Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, and Aaqib Nabi.*
