Is Traore the youngest president?
Ibrahim Traore was born on 14 March 1988. He took power in Burkina Faso following a military coup in September 2022. Then his age was only 35 years. After coming to power, he promised to free the country from corruption, foreign influence and jihadi violence. Traore considers himself a Pan-Africanist, nationalist and anti-imperialist leader.
He also stressed the need to strengthen the Al-Sahel States alliance. He says that the justice system should be strengthened on the basis of the country’s security, sovereignty and local traditions. Under his rule, Burkina Faso distanced itself from Western countries such as France and strengthened its relations with other countries, including Russia. However, the security situation in the country still remains a major challenge.

Muslim population in Burkina Faso is 63 percent
The population of Burkina Faso is about 22 million. According to the 2019 census, about 63.8 percent of the people here are Muslims. Most of them are Sunni and have the influence of Maliki tradition and Sufi ideology. About 26.3 percent of the people are Christian, while about 9 percent follow traditional African religions. The country’s constitution is secular and gives all citizens the freedom to practice their religion.
