Sonam Wangchuk will remain in government hospital, High Court rejects wife Geetanjali’s petition

Delhi High Court on Sonam Wangchuk: The Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim relief on a plea seeking transfer of social activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital. The court clarified that for the time being Wangchuk’s treatment will continue in Safdarjung Hospital.

Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J. Angmo had filed a petition in the High Court demanding that he be admitted to a private hospital of his choice. President also treated in government hospital

During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, arguing on behalf of the petitioner, said that “My body, my choice” Under the principle of Sonam Wangchuk has the right to choose which doctor and which hospital she wants to get her treatment.

At the same time, the Central Government told the court that all necessary medical facilities are available for the treatment of Wangchuk in Safdarjung Hospital. The government also said that people holding the highest positions in the country are also treated in government hospitals, hence the demand to shift them to private hospitals alone is not justified.
