BWF World Championship: Ayush Shetty defeated world number-1, Sindhu also won

India's Ayush Shetty has created history by debuting in the BWF World Championship. Ayush started aggressively

Ayush, who had won the US Open Super 300 title this year, showed aggressive attitude from the beginning of the match amid the support of the home crowd and took an 11-5 lead in the first game. During this period, the Chinese players also made many mistakes. Sometimes he got entangled in the shuttle net and sometimes he hit his shots outside the court. Ayush took full advantage of these mistakes and won the first game 21-14.

 

Shi Yu used his experience in the second game. He adopted the strategy of tiring AYUSH through long rallies. The mistakes in the Indian player's game also started increasing and Shi Yu took the match to the deciding game by winning the second game 21-13.

Sindhu defeated Sophia Noble

Sindhu made a great start to her historic sixth medal claim by defeating Ireland's Sophia Noble in straight games in the first round of women's singles. The 9th seeded Indian star easily overcame Sofia's challenge and entered the second round by winning 21-7, 21-11.

 

Sindhu won the five-time World Championship in just 29 minutes. She dominated the match from the beginning and kept Sofia under constant pressure with her experience and patient play. Sindhu had a strong lead of 11-2 till the break in the first game, after which she easily won the game.

 

In the second game, Noble presented a better challenge and at one point looked to be giving a tough fight to Sindhu but the Indian player used her experience to take an 11-8 lead at the break. Sindhu did not give Noble any chance to comeback after this. He controlled the game with brilliant drop shots and powerful smashes and finished the match with a brilliant backhand drop near the net. Sindhu will face Canada's Wen Yu Zhang in the next round. Zhang defeated Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria 21-7, 21-19 in the first round.

Trisa-Gayatri won in women's doubles

Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand started their women's doubles campaign with a comfortable 21-9, 21-13 win over Spain's Paula Lopez and Lucia Rodriguez. The Indian pair will face the challenge of 16th seeded Lorem Lam and Alison Quinn of America in the next round.

 

The pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun, who played their first match for India in the World Championship, also made it to the second round. In the first round of men's doubles against the Indian pair, the pair of Scott Gildea and Paul Reynolds left the match after falling 16-21, 4-6.

 

Hariharan and Arjun will now face 15th seeded Min Hyuk Kang and Dong Ju Ki of Korea. The Korean pair got a bye in the first round.
