The Uttar Pradesh government has already launched many campaigns and schemes regarding cow protection. Efforts have been made by the government at different levels for the protection of destitute cattle, arrangement of cow shelters and care of animals. Now, as another initiative in this direction, preparations are being made to run 'Go Mitra Abhiyan'. Under this scheme, thousands of youth will be given training so that they can participate in economic activities related to it.
Through this campaign, the government plans to connect the youth of villages with cow protection. Under this initiative, about 10 thousand youth can be trained as 'Go Mitra'. Its objective is to increase the participation of youth in the care of cattle. This initiative of the government is being seen as an attempt to strengthen cow conservation in rural areas and increase employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth.

What is 'Gau Mitra Abhiyan'?
'Gau Mitra Abhiyan' is a proposed initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government to increase the participation of youth in cow protection. Under this, there is a plan to connect the youth of the villages as 'Go Mitra' and train them for the work related to cow care, conservation and animal husbandry. There are preparations to train about 10 thousand youth under this campaign.
The objective of this initiative is not limited to the care of cattle only. Emphasis is also being laid on promoting rural economy and employment opportunities by connecting youth with natural farming, animal husbandry and cow dung-based activities.
How can youth become partners?
The main objective of participation of youth in 'Go Mitra Abhiyan' is to connect them with cow protection and rural economy. Under this campaign, there is a plan to prepare first master trainers. These trainers will further provide information related to the care, conservation and animal husbandry of cattle to the youth and children in the villages. Through this, participation of youth will be increased at the local level.
However, the detailed official information about the application process, age limit, educational qualification and selection process to become Go Mitra is not clear yet. Therefore, the youth should wait for the official information to be released by the government.

What responsibility will cow friends get?
Under 'Go Mitra Abhiyan', there is a plan to give active role to the youth in work related to cow protection and care. Go Mitra can help in monitoring the condition of destitute cattle in the villages, take care of them and, if needed, provide information to the concerned cow shed or animal husbandry department.
Apart from this, Go Mitras can also be trained about activities related to animal husbandry and natural farming. They can have a role in promoting the rural economy through useful products related to cow dung and cow urine and activities like organic farming. However, the detailed list of official responsibilities of Gau Mitras and the final information about the scope of work will be clear only after the guidelines issued by the government.
