BYD Releases Teaser Video For Their PHEV Sealion 6 SUV
Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD is known for its battery technology. Most people associate BYD only with EVs. However, the company offers a variety of products, including EVs, petrol, and hybrid cars. They currently have only EVs in India, and they are slowly planning to expand the lineup by introducing a plug-in hybrid SUV. It is the Sealion 6, and we have already seen the SUV on our roads as part of testing. BYD has now released a new teaser video hinting at the launch of its latest and first PHEV in India.
The video has been shared by BYD on social media, and it has been circulating on the internet ever since. BYD had showcased the Sealion 6 PHEV at the Auto Expo last year. However, when JSW decided to launch the Jetour T2, BYD must have also thought of it as the right time to test the market.
The teaser video actually asks questions that most customers in the market for a car usually ask. They either ask for electric or petrol, range or silence, or power or efficiency. BYD, in the teaser, hints that they are removing the “OR” from the equation, which means customers will be getting the best of both worlds.
The teaser is a clear hint towards plug-in hybrids. The BYD Sealion 6 is 4,775 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall. It also has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. It gets a conventional SUV-like design with typical BYD design elements. There are sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs and a sporty-looking bumper with parking sensors and cameras.
Unlike other Chinese cars, the Sealion 6 gets regular pull-type door handles, alloy wheels, and so on. At the rear, the SUV comes with an integrated spoiler, LED tail lamps with a connecting LED bar, and more.
On the inside, the Sealion 6 comes with a dual-tone cabin. It is offered in tan and black or off-white and black, with silver trim on the dashboard and centre console along with soft-touch materials. The SUV comes with leatherette upholstery, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, while the driver gets a 12.3-inch digital display.

Like most cars from BYD, the Sealion 6 also comes with seven airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, a 10-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, and more.
The BYD Sealion 6 in international markets is available with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol engine options. Both engine options are paired with either an 18.3 kWh or a 26.6 kWh battery pack. The naturally aspirated version of the SUV generates 218 Ps, which is sent to the front wheels.

The turbo-petrol engine option is a lot more powerful and generates around 324 Ps to 344 Ps. It remains to be seen whether India will get the naturally aspirated petrol or the turbo-petrol engine option. The major advantage of the Sealion 6 PHEV is going to be its efficiency, as it can easily offer a driving range of 1,000 km.
