Chinese giant BYD is all set to launch its new compact electric SUV globally on May 21st, having recently unveiled it at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. Known as the Atto 3 in India, the car, now in its third generation, is set to take the market by storm with more space, ‘God Eye’ smart driving technology, and a 5-minute flash charging time.

New Technology and Design

This new electric SUV (EV) from BYD is a major leap forward in technology. The third-generation Yuan Plus is built on the company’s most advanced platform. Its key highlights are its second-generation blade battery and new flash charging technology.

Electric car owners often worry about long charging times, but BYD has found a solution. This new technology is capable of charging the vehicle from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. This means that by the time you take a short coffee break, your car will be ready for a long journey.

Size and Interior

The new Yuan Plus is superior to the current model not only in terms of technology but also in size. It measures 4,665mm in length, 1,895mm in width, and 1,675mm in height. Its wheelbase has been extended to 2,770mm, meaning passengers will enjoy more legroom and a premium feel inside the cabin. The increased size makes it a proper family SUV, with ample luggage space.

Performance and Power

The third-generation Yuan Plus features a rear-mounted single-motor setup that comes with two different power options. The base variant produces 200 kW (268 hp), while the high-end variant delivers a powerful 240 kW. This car is also second to none in terms of range.

With the smaller battery pack (57.54 kWh), it offers a remarkable range of 540 kilometers, and with the larger battery pack (68.54 kWh), it offers a range of 630 kilometers (CLTC). This tremendous range and speed make it a powerhouse for busy city streets as well as long highway trips, eliminating range anxiety.

Smart Features

BYD has left no stone unturned when it comes to safety and smart driving. This new EV features a roof-mounted LiDAR system that accurately scans road details. It also features BYD’s in-house developed “God’s Eye” smart driving assistance system.
