C Vanmathi: Many times the dream of the biggest destination of life is born in those circumstances where meeting the daily needs is the biggest challenge. The story of C. Vanamathi from Erode district of Tamil Nadu is also similar. Due to the weak financial condition of the family in his childhood, he had to do work like grazing buffaloes and arranging fodder for them along with his studies. Despite this, he did not leave behind his studies and future dreams.
The financial condition of the family was weak
Vanmathi’s childhood was spent amidst financial troubles. His father worked as a driver and the family responsibilities were managed with limited income. In such a situation, Vanmathi started helping in household responsibilities from a young age.
Taking care of animals along with studies was a part of his daily routine. But even amidst these circumstances he continued his education. Later another challenge came before him. During 12th class, social pressure started being put on her to get married. However, he decided to give priority to studies.
The idea of becoming an IAS came to my mind after watching a TV serial (C Vanmathi)
A TV serial also played a role in Vanmathi’s dream of becoming an IAS. During her school days, she used to watch a serial named ‘Ganga Yamuna Saraswati’. In this, the character of a female IAS officer impressed her a lot.
Seeing that character, a desire to become an administrative officer arose in his mind. Gradually this desire became her goal and she decided that she would prepare for the Civil Services Examination.
UPSC preparation after BCA and MCA
Despite social and economic challenges, Vanamathi pursued higher education. He did BCA in Computer Applications and then completed MCA. After master’s degree, he started preparing for UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Even during preparation, circumstances were not always in his favor. While preparing for the interview during the first attempt, his father’s health deteriorated seriously. Between taking care of his father and responsibilities related to the hospital, he also had to manage the preparation for the exams.
Achieved All India Rank 152 in 2014
After continuous hard work, Vanmathi achieved success in the UPSC examination of the year 2014. She obtained All India Rank 152 and got selected for Indian Administrative Service i.e. IAS.
The story of C. Vanamathi is an example of how no matter how difficult a person’s beginning may be, education and continuous efforts towards the goal can change his direction. His journey from grazing buffalo to reaching the prestigious civil service of the country is a story of long struggle and determination.
