Cabinet divided in Bihar, CM Samrat Chaudhary has a total of 29 departments

A new phase has begun in the politics of Bihar, where Bharatiya Janata Party leader Samrat Chaudhary took charge of power by taking oath as the Chief Minister on Wednesday. In the government formed under his leadership, senior JDU leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Yadav have been made Deputy Chief Ministers. Immediately after the swearing in, the government also distributed the departments, in which BJP got 29 departments and JDU got 18 departments.

Which ministries does Samrat Chaudhary have?

Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has kept many important ministries including the Home Department. He also holds important departments like road construction, revenue, health, law, industry, tourism, disaster management, art and culture, cooperation, environment and Panchayati Raj. It is clear from this that the responsibility of major administrative and developmental areas of the state will be directly in the hands of the Chief Minister.

A total of 10 departments have been assigned to Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary including Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, Building Construction, Minority Welfare, Education, Rural Development and Higher Education. At the same time, the second Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Yadav has been given the responsibility of 8 departments like Energy, Finance, Commerce, Social Welfare, Food and Rural Works. This division shows an attempt to create a balance between the two allies in the government.

For now, this departmental arrangement will remain the same, but there are indications that the cabinet in Bihar may be expanded after the West Bengal assembly elections. Due to this, there is a possibility of including more leaders in the government.

With Samrat Chaudhary becoming the Chief Minister, a new history has also been made in Bihar, because this is the first time when a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party has become the Chief Minister of the state. Although the party has been an ally in power for a long time, it had not held the top post till now.

Samrat Chaudhary’s political journey

Samrat Chaudhary’s political journey has also been quite interesting. He started his career with Rashtriya Janata Dal. His father Shakuni Chaudhary was also active in politics and was associated with various parties. Samrat Chaudhary has been active in politics since the 1990s and was the Agriculture Minister in the Rabri Devi government in 1999.

He was elected MLA in 2000 and 2010 and joined BJP in 2018. After this his stature continued to grow. In 2023, he was made the state president of the party and in 2024 he got the responsibility of Deputy Chief Minister in the NDA government. Now with becoming the Chief Minister, his political journey has achieved a new milestone.
