Carlos Sainz reflects on father’s legacy and maintaining it

Spanish racer Carlos Sainz Jr. has reflected on his father’s legacy and how he is responsible to keep it alive.

The 31-year-old was born to famous racer Carlos Sainz Sr. and his wife Reyes Vázquez de Castro in 1994.

Despite his father being a famous racer, Carlos wanted to make a name for himself.

He spoke about his pursuit of F1 in a new interview with People ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21.

Carlos revealed that he got behind the wheel of a kart at age 3.

The racer, who grew up in Madrid said “The first time that I went to a go-kart center, my dad took me at the time and put me on a go-kart, and I remember it being one of the best days of my life.”

Speaking of his father’s fame, he recalled his farewell saying “I remember being amazed with how much people turned up for his farewell, and it was honestly quite shocking. And at that point I realized, ‘Okay, my dad is big. My dad is huge.’ And yeah, I have a name.”
