Lucknow. The Government of India on Wednesday reconstituted the new board of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Many famous faces associated with the film and entertainment world have been included in the new board announced by the government. Among these, actor Sunil Shetty, Pankaj Tripathi and actress Preity Zinta are prominent names. According to media reports, a total of 18 members have been included in the new board.
Rupali Ganguly and Pallavi Joshi also part of the board
Many other famous people associated with the entertainment sector have also been made members in the new CBFC board. These include the names of Rupali Ganguly, Pallavi Joshi and Prasanjit Chatterjee. The responsibility of the new board will be to play a role in the work related to certification of films before their public exhibition. After the inclusion of members from different fields of the film industry in the board, discussions have started regarding its new team.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati becomes CBFC Chairman in May 2026
The central government had appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification in May 2026. His tenure is three years from the date of assuming office. Before him, Prasun Joshi was holding the responsibility of CBFC Chairman.
What does CBFC do?
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Its main function is to certify films for public exhibition under the Cinematograph Act and its associated rules. CBFC plays an important role in the process of certification of a film before it is publicly screened. With the formation of the new board, the new team will now play a role in the work related to certification.
