New Delhi. The Narendra Modi government at the Center on Saturday approved the appointment of 14 judges in different High Courts of the country. Union Law and Justice Minister (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal shared this information on social media platform 'X'. These include appointments in Delhi High Court, Jharkhand High Court, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh High Court and Karnataka High Court.
Releasing the list related to the appointment of judges, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that in the exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President appoints judicial officers as judges or additional judges in the High Court.
Appointment of 7 judges in Delhi High Court
The appointment of a total of 7 judges in Delhi High Court has been approved. Among these, Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena have been appointed permanent judges. Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj have been appointed as additional judges. Arun Bhardwaj is currently serving as the Registrar General of Delhi High Court.
Collegium had sent 8 names, 7 got approval
Earlier on September 10, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of 8 judicial officers for appointment as judges in the Delhi High Court. The Central Government has approved 7 of these names. The sanctioned number of judges in Delhi High Court is 60. At present, 44 judges are working here, while 16 posts are vacant. After the new appointments, the number of vacant posts will reduce to 9.
Three new judges in Jharkhand High Court
Approval has also been given to the appointment of three judicial officers as judges in Jharkhand High Court. These include Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma. The sanctioned number of judges in Jharkhand High Court is 25. Before the new appointments, 13 judges were working here and 12 posts were vacant. After the appointment of three new judges, the number of serving judges will increase to 16.
Yash Paul Borni appointed in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court
The Central Government has also announced the appointment of Yash Paul Borni as the Judge of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his appointment as a High Court judge in its meeting held on September 10.
Karnataka High Court gets three additional judges
Approval has been given to appoint three judicial officers as additional judges in the Karnataka High Court. These include Usha Rani, KS Bharat Kumar and Nerale Veerbhadraiya Bhavani. The sanctioned strength of judges in Karnataka High Court is 62. At present 54 judges are working and 8 posts are vacant. After the assumption of charge of three new additional judges, the number of serving judges will increase to 57.
