Players kept waiting for hours for rooms, mismanagement in Asian Games

The 20th Asian Games 2026 has officially started from today i.e. 19th September in Aichi Nagoya, Japan. Indian players have reached Japan but even before the start of the Asian Games, Indian players had to face mismanagement in Japan. On Thursday, a team of 35 Indian shooters had reached Nagoya, where they had to struggle a lot for a room. After waiting for several hours he was able to get the room.

On the other hand, the room allotted to Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat on Friday was not found available when he reached the hotel. It was reported that the room was being used for dope control, while the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had already booked rooms in the hotel for the players.

Rahi Sarnobat's room converted into dope control

Actually, some members of the shooting team reached Japan earlier and some later, player Rahi Sarnobat also reached there later. When a coach reached the Grand Tiara Hotel to collect the keys to Rahi's room, the hotel informed that the room was no longer available and was being used for arrangements related to the dope test, although the room had been pre-booked by the IOA and in the records of the organisers, the room was in the name of the Indian team.

After reaching the airport, shooter Rahi Sarnobat accidentally went to a different hotel, where she was given a room after seeing her passport and accreditation. Sarnobat did not realize that she was in the wrong hotel, so she went and slept there. This incident is raising questions regarding the accommodation arrangements of the players in the Asian Games.

Players walked on foot carrying luggage, delay in transport also

The problem is not limited to hotels only. The players also faced problems in arranging transport facilities to take them from the airport to the hotel; the bus arrived at 3 in the morning after waiting for hours. The players had to carry their luggage themselves to the hotel. This was not easy, because apart from the usual equipment, they also had heavy shooting equipment and necessary clothing. Some male players helped the female players in carrying heavy luggage.

Not only this, when the players reached the hotel, they came to know that only 7 rooms were available for 35 members. After this IOA had to intervene in the matter. Later, accommodation arrangements were made for the players in two different hotels.

Trouble even in training

Apart from this, Indian players had to face a lot of problems during training also. When the players were preparing to go for training, they had to go to the shooting range by bus at 7 in the morning and reach at 8:20. The problem arose here also. Only one bus arrived for the players and many players and coaches stood waiting for the bus for about three and a half hours.

Finally the bus was found at 10:30 in the morning and the team could reach the shooting range at around 12:30 in the afternoon. That is, even before the start of the Asian Games, the Indian shooting team had to face many problems related to hotel, room, luggage and transport.
