New Delhi: The last lunar eclipse of the year 2026 is taking place today i.e. on 28th August. The special thing this time is that the festival of lunar eclipse and Rakshabandhan is falling on the same day. In such a situation, many questions are being raised among the people regarding eclipse, Sutak period and tying Rakhi. However, due to this eclipse not being visible in India, it is not considered to have any religious effect here.

According to astronomical calculations, the lunar eclipse occurring today is a partial eclipse. According to Indian time, the eclipse started with the touch of penumbra at around 6:55 in the morning. After this the partial eclipse started at 8:04 am. The peak of the eclipse will be at 9:43 am, while the partial eclipse will end at 11:21 am. The entire process of eclipse will end at around 12:30 pm.
Lunar eclipse will not be visible in India
It is not possible for people living in India to see this eclipse. During the eclipse, it will be daytime in India and the Moon will be below the horizon. This is the reason that this astronomical phenomenon will not be visible from any part of the country. This eclipse will be visible mainly in America, Europe and parts of Africa.
Will Sutak period be valid in India or not?
According to religious beliefs, the Sutak period of the eclipse is generally considered effective only when the eclipse is visible at the concerned place. Since today's lunar eclipse is not visible in India, its Sutak period is not considered valid here. In such a situation, rules related to Sutak like eating, worshiping or keeping the temple closed will also not be applicable.
Eclipse will not affect Rakshabandhan
Due to the lunar eclipse not being visible in India, it is not believed to have any effect on the festival of Rakshabandhan. For this reason, brothers and sisters can celebrate the festival of Rakhi in a normal way. The time from 5:57 am to 9:48 am today was considered auspicious for tying Rakhi. At the same time, worship and religious rituals are being performed normally in temples across the country.
