Chardham Yatra: 2 devotees died in Yamunotri on the first day
Two devotees died on Yamunotri Dham route on the first day of Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand. A woman died after falling from a horse and an elderly man died due to breathlessness, the administration appealed for vigilance.
Uttarkashi: The death of devotees in two separate incidents on the very first day of the Chardham Yatra that started in Uttarakhand has given a sad start to the Yatra. Both these accidents happened during the climb to Yamunotri Dham, where every year thousands of people come to visit through difficult hilly roads.
Woman dies after falling from horse
Pratima Mishra, a 40-year-old woman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had come on a trip with her husband. She fell down after the horse lost its balance near ’19 Scissors’, a dangerous turn of the Yamunotri track.
He suffered a serious head injury due to the fall. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead before reaching there.
The health of the elderly devotee deteriorated during the climb.
In the second incident, 67-year-old Udam Tambe of Nashik died. He was traveling on foot and suddenly started having trouble breathing while climbing.
With the help of family members and administration, he was taken to Jankichatti Hospital, but doctors could not save him. Initial investigation has suggested high blood pressure and lack of oxygen at altitude as possible causes.
Why does traveling at high altitude become risky?
During travel in the Himalayan regions, the body has to face less oxygen and low temperatures. In such a situation, the risk increases further for people who already have heart, lung or blood pressure problems.
Administration Advisory: Keep these things in mind
The local administration has advised the devotees to exercise caution. According to Subhash Chand:
Get a complete medical checkup done before traveling
- People suffering from asthma, BP or heart disease must consult a doctor.
- climb slowly, don’t rush
- Carry enough water and essential medicines
- Rest immediately if you feel tired
