Religious importance of Chaturmas

The period of four months starting from Devshayani Ekadashi till Devuthani Ekadashi is called Chaturmas. It includes the major part of the months from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi to Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin and Kartik months. It is believed that Lord Vishnu remains in Yoga Nidra during this period. Therefore, marriage, housewarming, mundan and other auspicious functions are generally not performed. At the same time, chanting, penance, fasting, listening to stories, charity and devotion to God are considered to have special importance.

When will the month of Sawan start?

The holy month of Sawan dedicated to Lord Shiva will start from 30th July 2026 this year and will continue till 28th August 2026. This time there will be four Saavan Mondays in Saavan. Shiva devotees will receive the blessings of Lord Bholenath by fasting, Rudrabhishek, Jalabhishek and Shiva puja throughout the month.
