Khaosod English news portal reported that the 51-year-old man and his daughter, believed to be in her 30s, had rented a motorcycle to visit the Windmill Viewpoint on the island.
While riding down a steep slope on Aug. 6, he lost control and plunged off a cliff into the road.
He died instantly, while she was injured and taken to hospital.
Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the Chinese embassy in Thailand as saying it had contacted the police and the hospital, urging them to provide the best possible medical care for the injured daughter and assisting the family with funeral and administrative arrangements.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Pattaya Mail newspaper reported that, following the tragic crash, city authorities have closed off the road leading to the Windmill Viewpoint pending safety improvements.
Barriers and warning signs have been installed, with violators facing fines of up to 2,000 baht (US$60).
Officials said the road is steep and full of sharp and hazardous bends.
However, visitors are still allowed to walk up to the viewpoint to enjoy the views.
Koh Lan, also known as Koh Larn, is a tiny island famous for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and mountain viewpoints, making it a major attraction for visitors to Pattaya.
