Changing relationships of youth and new perspective on marriage

new definition of relationships

In today’s time, the concept of relationships is changing rapidly. Recent studies and statistics show that marriage is no longer an essential part of life. From Britain to India, youth are now giving priority to their independence and career rather than getting tied into the bonds of marriage. After Millennials and Gen-G, Gen-Alpha are also seen moving in the same direction, for whom marriage has no longer become a necessity but an option.

Decision making ability of the new generation

Gen-Alpha accounts for a quarter of India’s population. This generation is far ahead not only in technology and gadgets but also in practical understanding. According to a report, the desire to earn money has been seen in these children from an early age. Interestingly, 66% of the decisions of households today are influenced by the choices and understanding of these children, which shows how clear they are about their lives.

Changing perspective of women

Women are at the forefront in staying away from marriage. Between 2011 and 2019, the number of women who do not want to get married has increased by approximately 48%. Education and economic independence have given women the power to live a life without compromise. Now they prefer to choose only those relationships where they get equal respect.

talking about government statistics

According to the Office of National Statistics, the number of unmarried youth is continuously increasing. In 2011, 17% of youth were bachelors, which increased to 23% by 2019. Not only has the number of people living unmarried increased, but the average age of marriage has also increased. Now people start looking for a life partner at the age of 29 instead of 27. Surveys of dating apps also show that a large number of youth no longer consider marriage a compulsion.

Reason for distance from responsibilities

Today’s youth are giving priority to strengthening their career and financial position instead of getting tied up in the responsibilities of family or children. Pressure from society and relatives is now becoming less effective. Earlier it was believed that children would provide support in old age, but in today’s era, due to career, children stay away and facilities like old age home are easily available. This is why young people want to spend their 20s and 30s only in improving themselves.
