Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ removed from ZEE5, know the reason

Sudden departure of film ‘Sutlej’ from OTT platform

Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited film ‘Sutlej’, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda, has been removed from OTT platform ZEE5 just two days after its release. The film was embroiled in a censorship controversy for the last three years. It was released without any cuts on Friday, but it was suddenly removed from the platform on Sunday evening.

Official statement of G5

‘Sutlej’, directed by Honey Trehan, was released without any cuts on ZEE5, but on Sunday the OTT platform issued a statement saying that the film is no longer available in India. The statement said, “Given the current situation, ‘Sutlej’ will not be available in India until further notice. We are making efforts to deliver the film to the audience as soon as possible while following all legal procedures.”

Story and controversy of the film

In ‘Sutlej’, Diljit plays the character of Khalda, who investigated the cremations of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. Khalda went missing in 1995. In 2005, four Punjab Police personnel were convicted in the kidnapping and murder of Khalda.

Film name and censorship

The film was earlier titled ‘Punjab 95’, but after a dispute with the censor board, it was named ‘Sutlej’. Apart from Diljit, Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljeet Singh, Suvinder Vidya and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan have also played important roles in the film. Now it remains to be seen when this film will be released to the audience again after the legal processes.
