BMW India has expanded its X1 SUV lineup by launching the new BMW X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India. Its price is Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently the company has introduced it only in sDrive18i M Sport variant. The new X1 LWB measures 4,616 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width and 1,641 mm in height, making it larger than the standard The wheelbase of the SUV has increased by 108 mm to 2,802 mm, while its overall length has increased by 116 mm. The company has used this extra space mainly to increase the comfort of the rear seat passengers. According to BMW, the new X1 LWB offers 109 mm more knee-room for the rear seat occupants. Additionally, the length of the rear seat cushion has been increased by 15 mm, creating a more comfortable and spacious space for the second row passengers.
BMW X1 LWB Engine
The BMW X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 156 hp of power and 230 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which transmits power to the front wheels. Torque output remains the same at 230 Nm – the same as the previous petrol X1 – but maximum power on the new SUV has increased by 22 hp.

It gets features like electrically adjustable front seats (with memory function for the driver seat), powered ORVMs, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents and a powered tailgate.
Additionally, the SUV includes a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, BMW Digital Key, Park Assist Plus, Reversing Assistant, integrated navigation and connected car technology. It also supports OTA software updates and voice assistants, and has multiple USB Type-C ports with different drive modes.
Safety Features
The BMW X1 LWB has features like 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Additional safety features include electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, rear-view camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. The SUV also gets a full set of ADAS features, which adds to its overall capability and ruggedness. In the Indian market, the BMW X1 LWB will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the Volvo XC40.
