Sonu Sood's statement on Delhi PG accident

Sonu Sood's statement: Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has expressed his concern about the safety of students after a serious accident in Delhi recently. Seven people, including many students, lost their lives when a five-storey building collapsed in Satya Niketan area. This incident shook the entire country. Raising this issue, Sonu Sood shared a post on social media platform X.

What did Sonu Sood say?

He wrote in his post that every year lakhs of students leave their homes and go to other cities to fulfill their dreams. But are we able to provide them safe accommodation? Around seven lakh students are studying in Delhi, while the hostel capacity is only around 30,000. This means that only one student out of 31 gets a hostel. This figure is really worrying.

Sonu Sood has also given a practical suggestion. He said that vacant government land around universities should be identified and safe and affordable student hostels should be constructed there. Along with this, universities should be allowed to build more housing on their campus. This will provide security to students, peace to parents, and revenue to universities and the government. The most important thing is that this will save lives. He said that sometimes small changes in policies can protect one's big dreams.

Sonu Sood has been known for social service for a long time. Be it during Covid or helping students and the needy, they are always at the forefront. This time too he did not limit himself to just expressing his grief, but also pointed towards a solution. The incident, which took place near Delhi University's South Campus, has again highlighted the problems of shortage of student accommodation and illegal PGs. Many students are forced to live in expensive and unsafe rooms.
