Gondhal's announcement in New Delhi
New Delhi. There is an important announcement for the fans of Indian cinema. The Film Federation of India (FFI) on Friday announced the name of the film to be sent to the Oscars. Director Santosh Davkhare's Marathi thriller film 'Gondhal' has been selected as India's official entry for the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars 2027). This film will be sent to the Best International Feature Film category.

This film directed by Santosh Davkhare has been greatly appreciated by the audience. It has also been awarded the 'Silver Peacock Award' at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025. The film was released in theaters on 14 November 2025. Its music, composed by renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja, has also been liked by the audience.
Gondhal wins out of 33 films
This time 33 Indian films had participated for the Oscars. Gondhal achieved this position leaving everyone behind. These included 14 Hindi, 4 each Marathi, Telugu and Gujarati, 3 Tamil, and 1 each Malayalam, Naga (Konyak) and Nepali films. Gondhal faced tough competition from Naga film 'Anga' and Tamil film 'Dorothy'.
