Ganesh Chaturthi Bhog: Offer Basundi to Ganpati Bappa on the fifth day, make delicious sweets at home in this easy way.

Tezzbuzz Desk- During Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees offer different types of dishes to Lord Ganesha as per their devotion. Modak is considered to be the favorite offering of Ganpati Bappa, but apart from this many types of sweets are also made for Prasad. If this time you want to make something different and special for Bappa, then you can prepare Basundi at home.

Basundi is mainly prepared by cooking milk on low flame. Sugar, cardamom, saffron and dry fruits are used in it, which enhances both its taste and aroma. This sweet is very popular in Maharashtra and Gujarat. On the fifth day of Ganesh Utsav, Basundi can be offered to Bappa and served as Prasad among the family and guests. The most important thing while making Basundi is to cook the milk on low flame and keep stirring it continuously. This will prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom and will gradually thicken and give the delicious texture of Basundi.

Ingredients for making Basundi

  • Full cream milk- 1 liter
  • Sugar- 5 tbsp
  • Cardamom- 5
  • Almonds- 10
  • Cashews- 10
  • Pistachios – 2 tbsp
  • Saffron – a few threads
  • Nutmeg powder- 1 teaspoon

Easy method of making Basundi

First of all, take a heavy bottomed vessel and add full cream milk in it and heat it on medium flame. When the milk starts boiling, reduce the flame. Keep stirring the milk occasionally, so that it does not stick to the bottom of the vessel.

Now keep cooking the milk on low flame. When the cream starts forming on the surface of the milk, remove it from the sides with the help of a spoon and mix it back into the milk. Cook the milk in the same manner until its quantity reduces and becomes thick.

After this add finely chopped almonds, cashews and pistachios. Soak some saffron threads in lukewarm milk and add it to Basundi. Now add sugar and cardamom powder to it and mix well.

After cooking Basundi on low flame for a few minutes, turn off the gas. A little nutmeg powder can also be added to enhance the taste and aroma. Let the prepared Basundi cool at room temperature first. After this, it can also be cooled by keeping it in the refrigerator.

At the time of puja, take out Basundi in a clean bowl and offer it to Ganpati Bappa. After Bhog, serve it as Prasad to the family and guests. While making Basundi, it is better to add sugar after the milk thickens well, this helps in maintaining good texture and taste of the milk.
