Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the new head coach of the team. He replaces Stephen Fleming, who stepped down in July this year after leading the team for 17 years.

Zaheer's new role
Zaheer Khan, who has worked with former Indian captain and CSK star MS Dhoni before, was instrumental in winning the ODI World Cup in 2011. Dhoni did not play any match in 2026 and the situation regarding his future is still unclear. With Fleming, Dhoni made Chennai IPL champion 5 times.
Zaheer Khan's appointment comes at a time when CSK has to make several important changes in its team. He has been linked to the team for three years, and IPL 2027 will be his first season. After this, the mega auction is to be held in 2028, which will give important time to Zaheer to understand the shortcomings of the team and prepare future strategy.
