New Delhi, 21 September 2026: With the aim of strengthening the operational capability and readiness of the main battle tanks T-72 and T-90 of the Indian Army, the Ministry of Defense has sanctioned Rs. A big contract worth Rs 586 crore has been signed. Under this agreement, indigenously developed 'Auxiliary Power Unit' (APU) will be purchased for both types of tanks. APU works to provide necessary power supply to various important systems of the tank. According to the Defense Ministry, the addition of indigenous APU will significantly increase the capability, reliability and longevity of fighter mechanized formations.
The Defense Ministry signed this agreement with 'Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited' in the presence of Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on 21 September 2026. This purchase is a major and decisive step towards indigenization of critical systems related to armed platforms. APU is an alternative source of generating electricity in the tank. It is used to supply power to the tank's most sensitive and critical systems such as the fire control system, firing circuit and gun stabilization system. These systems require electricity to operate consistently and reliably, so the APU plays an important role in maintaining tank capacity.
