Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday participated in an event called 'Bhajan Clubbing' at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park in Delhi. The event was organized to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. A large number of youth participated in the event and the bhajans were presented in a modern concert environment. Prime Minister Modi was seen listening to bhajans, clapping and playing a small percussion instrument. He also shared pictures and videos related to this program on social media.
What is the meaning of bhajan clubbing?
Bhajan clubbing is not a traditional religious term, rather it is a new cultural trend of presenting devotional music in the form of a modern concert-like event. In this, a large number of people, especially youth, gather and sing or listen to bhajans and other devotional songs. The event usually features a stage, live band, modern musical instruments, lights and a concert-like atmosphere. People sing along with the bhajans, clap and sometimes even dance to the rhythm of the music. Its core remains bhajan and devotional music, but the way it is presented is different from a traditional temple or satsang and more like a modern concert.
Why use the name clubbing?
The term 'clubbing' is used in this format because the programs combine traditional bhajan with performances similar to a club or live-music event. However, this does not mean a typical nightclub-like event. Materials published by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India describe them as events where traditional devotional songs such as Kabir's couplets and Meera's bhajans are presented amidst modern stages, lights and musical instruments.

Bhajan clubbing is being seen as a new devotional music format especially among the youth and Gen-Z. Its aim is to present devotional music in an environment that provides a live music or concert-like experience to the younger generation. Prime Minister Modi had also mentioned Bhajan Clubbing in the Mann Ki Baat program of January 2026, calling it a confluence of spirituality and modernity. Bhajan Clubbing has been organized in Delhi before, such as in March 2026 at the Purana Qila complex.
