New Delhi, September 30 (IANS). Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday approved procurement of Rs 5,547.99 crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27 in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
The Union Minister said that the objective of this decision is to protect farmers from falling market prices and ensure remunerative prices for their produce. Especially pulses and oilseed producers will benefit from this.
Uttar Pradesh has the largest share of Rs 3,992.57 crore in the approved procurement. Under this, 4,66,000 metric tons of tur will be purchased at MSP for Rs 3,937.70 crore and 6,250 metric tons of moong will be purchased at MSP for Rs 54.87 crore.
Procurement worth Rs 1,107 crore has been approved under PSS for pulses and oilseeds farmers in Karnataka. In this, 1,15,500 metric tons of soybean will be purchased for Rs. 659.27 crore, while 38,250 metric tons of moong will be purchased for Rs. 335.83 crore and 13,413 metric tons of sunflower will be purchased for Rs. 111.90 crore.
Procurement worth Rs 448.42 crore has been approved in Telangana. Under the price support scheme, 62,000 metric tons of soybean will be purchased at MSP for Rs. 353.90 crore and 10,766 metric tons of moong will be purchased for Rs. 94.52 crore.
The Union Minister said that this decision will provide more economic security to the farmers. Also, it will boost domestic production of pulses and oilseeds, as well as contribute to India's efforts towards self-reliance in the pulses and edible oils sector.
He assured that the procurement system at all designated procurement centers will remain transparent and farmers will be paid for their produce on time directly into their bank accounts.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, welfare of farmers, increasing their income and strengthening self-reliance in the agriculture sector are among the major priorities of the government.
He said that the government is working to ensure that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce and to make the procurement system more transparent and accessible. Under the approved procurement scheme, farmers of the three states will get the benefit of large scale purchase of major pulses and oilseeds at MSP.
