Delhi EV Policy 2026 gets overwhelming response: More than 7,700 applications in 3 months; Subsidy worth Rs 7.91 crore distributed

New Delhi, October 11 (IANS). Delhi Government's EV Policy 2026 is receiving positive response since its launch. Under this policy, implemented from July 1, 2026, till October 8, 7,782 incentive applications have been received, while subsidy worth Rs 7.91 crore has been distributed to 2,731 beneficiaries. These figures show that the acceptance of electric vehicles is continuously increasing in the capital. This information was revealed in a statement on Sunday.

The government says that this policy is an important step towards reducing air pollution, promoting clean transportation and making Delhi a green and sustainable city.

According to the statement, the largest share in the total applications received under the Delhi EV Policy has been for electric two-wheelers, in which so far 7,706 applications have been received related to electric two-wheelers.

According to the data, purchase incentive amounting to Rs 7.61 crore has been distributed to 2,707 beneficiaries. Apart from this, scrapping incentive amount of Rs 29.50 lakh has been given to those who buy new EVs by scrapping old vehicles, the benefit of which was availed by 79 people.

Under the policy, subsidy is being given on various categories of electric vehicles. A maximum subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 is available in the first year on electric two-wheelers with ex-showroom price up to Rs 2.25 lakh, depending on battery capacity.

Similarly, different incentive amounts have also been prescribed for electric three-wheelers, electric freight vehicles and other categories. The government aims to attract more and more people towards electric vehicles in the initial years.

Under the Delhi EV Policy, scrapping incentive has also been provided to remove old polluting vehicles.

If a person purchases a new electric vehicle within six months by depositing the old Delhi-registered vehicle at an authorized scrapping facility, he will get additional incentive amount.

For example, Rs 10,000 on scrapping an old BS-IV or below two-wheeler and buying a new electric two-wheeler. At the same time, an incentive of up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided on scrapping an old car and purchasing a new electric car worth up to Rs 30 lakh, while an assistance of up to Rs 50,000 will be provided on scrapping an old goods vehicle and purchasing an electric goods vehicle.

One of the biggest features of the policy is 100 per cent waiver of road tax and registration fees for eligible electric vehicles, the statement said.

Electric cars with ex-showroom price up to Rs 30 lakh will benefit from this benefit till March 31, 2030, thereby significantly reducing the overall cost of purchasing an electric vehicle.

Along with this, the government has made special provision to promote electric vehicles in the logistics and freight sector. Under the policy, the first 1,000 N2 class private electric trucks purchased and registered in Delhi will be exempted from the no-entry time restriction for 10 years. This is expected to accelerate the use of electric goods vehicles in Delhi.

Delhi government says that encouraging electric vehicles will reduce dependence on fossil fuels, reduce pollution and develop a clean transportation system. The ever-increasing applications are a sign that people are ready to adopt electric mobility.
