Imran Khan apologizes to Bombay High Court for participating in the protest

Imran Khan's unconditional apology

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has apologized unconditionally to the Bombay High Court for participating in the protest. The lawyer for Imran, who is a US citizen and OCI card holder, assured the court that he would not participate in any protests in future.

Case of participation in demonstration

Last month, Imran Khan had participated in a protest in Mumbai against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the SIR issue. Subsequently, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) issued him a departure notice, directing him to leave India by October 28.

Hearing in Bombay High Court

The case was heard in the Bombay High Court on Monday. A bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna expressed displeasure over Imran Khan's participation in the protest. The court said that only Indian citizens have the fundamental right to protest in India.

court decision

During the hearing, Imran Khan's lawyer Venkatesh Dhond presented an unconditional apology and also said that Imran will not participate in any protest in future. The court also said that India's generosity can be gauged from the fact that the US citizen holding an OCI card was given notice earlier instead of being deported immediately.

Imran Khan has challenged the FRRO notice and the court has scheduled the next hearing on his petition on December 7. Also, the court has stayed the FRRO notice in continuation of the earlier order. Now in the next hearing it will be decided what further steps will be taken regarding the FRRO notice. At present, Imran Khan is relieved and the notice to leave the country is not effective against him.
