The Supreme Court has taken a very strict stand in the case of the attack on the father of a minor girl during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest and the subsequent threats to the girl. A bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has sought a status report from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police in this case. The court clearly said that such cases cannot be taken lightly at all and if an accused tries to intimidate a child or his family, then it is a very serious matter.
Strict comments and instructions of the Supreme Court
Expressing concern, the Supreme Court questioned how the people committing violence are roaming around openly and threatening the victims. The court has directed Delhi and UP Police to submit a detailed report on the FIR lodged, action taken against the accused and the security provided to the minor victim and her family. The Chief Justice said that if a person is involved in violence against a child, he should not get protection at any cost.
What is the whole matter?
The case started with CJP’s (Cockroach Janta Party) protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in June-July over the NEET paper leak, where Sanjay Kumar, father of Nishu Azad, a social media influencer, was assaulted. Accused Swatantra Bhardwaj claimed in a social media podcast that he had broken the head of the girl’s father during the protest and that he was not afraid of the police because of his political reach. After the video went viral and the complaint was lodged, the victim minor girl alleged that she was being mentally harassed by receiving rape threats, obscene abuses and circulating her morphed pictures on social media.

Bhardwaj had openly bragged that he had brutally beaten and broken the head of Nishu Azad’s father (Sanjay Kumar) during the protest at Jantar Mantar, after which he had to get 60 stitches and had to be taken in an ambulance in a critical condition. He had laughingly claimed in the video that due to his attack, a case of Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC has been registered against him.
He claimed that he has very strong political connections with many big ministers and leaders (naming personalities like Kapil Mishra and Chirag Paswan). He had boasted and said that because of this influence the police could not do any harm to him and even after so many days of the incident, he was roaming around freely.
