Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a special gift to the sisters of the state on the holy festival of Rakshabandhan. The state government has announced that women will be able to travel absolutely free in Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses on the occasion of the festival. The special thing is that the facility of this free bus journey will not be limited only to women, but the ticket of one co-passenger (companion) traveling with them will also be completely waived. This free service will be effective from the night of 27th August and will be applicable till the night of 28th August.

To make the journey safe and smooth, orders have been issued to the administrative and police departments to land on the ground. The Chief Minister has made it clear that the traffic system on major roads and intersections should be maintained smoothly so that traffic jams do not arise anywhere.
In order to ensure the safety of women passengers, instructions have been given to keep the 'Anti-Romeo Squad' active in the entire state.

To curb road accidents, the state government has adopted a strict stance regarding the working style of drivers. Instructions have been given by the government that under no circumstances should any driver handle the steering while intoxicated. For this, continuous medical screening and monitoring of government bus drivers will be done. Orders have also been given to conduct thorough police verification of private buses, auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers, so that there is no compromise on the safety of women passengers.
High level review of waterlogging and flood affected areas
Administrative preparations were finalized in a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence on Saturday. During the review meeting, CM Yogi took stock of the arrangements for Rakshabandhan as well as the situation of floods and waterlogging in the state. Apart from the Divisional Commissioners of Prayagraj, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Saharanpur and Ghaziabad, he directly communicated with the officials of Noida Authority and sought reports on the reasons for water logging in low-lying areas. The Chief Minister said in a strong tone that there should not be unnecessary stagnation of water in roads and residential areas. The drains where garbage or silt has accumulated should be cleaned immediately and if necessary, additional pumping stations should be installed to ensure speedy drainage of water.
