The Recruitment Selection Commission has finally had to bow down to the tough struggle, legal pressure and continuous protests of lakhs of youth preparing for competitive examinations. After a huge controversy over serious discrepancies in the result and merit list of the recruitment process, missing names of eligible candidates and ignoring reservation and cut-off rules, the Commission has publicly admitted its lapse. The Commission has issued an official clarification saying that while preparing the results, there was a technical and clerical error at the software level, due to which the names of many meritorious candidates who got places in the merit list were left out from the final selection list. The administration has assured that the names of all the deprived eligible candidates will be added by publishing the revised merit list soon. Continuous protest of students and anger at the gate of the Commission The controversy started when allegations of huge irregularities in the results released by the Commission came to the fore. Despite securing marks more than the cut-off, names of dozens of candidates were not in the list, while candidates with lesser marks were shown selected. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the court sought a point-wise reply from the Commission and made a strong observation that the future of eligible youth cannot be thrown into darkness due to the lapse of any constitutional or autonomous recruitment body. The strict ultimatum given by the court and the preliminary report of the high-level internal inquiry committee constituted at the government level also confirmed software flaws during the compilation of results. As the legal and administrative siege increased, the Commission was left with no option but to accept its mistake. What clarification did the Commission give: How did such a huge human and technical mistake happen? In the official release issued by senior officials of the Commission and the Controller of Examinations, it has been admitted that due to some technical glitches during data processing and digital scrutiny, the data of some categories could not be matched correctly. The Commission clarified: Error in software mapping: Data of certain roll number codes were left out of the filter while normalization process and merging the scorecards of different shifts. Mismatch of document verification: Some candidates were marked unqualified despite their marks being above the cut-off due to incorrect coding in the verification of reservation, caste or EWS certificates uploaded by them. Lapses in Monitoring: This discrepancy could not be detected in time in the mandatory cross-verification and audit before releasing the results, which the Commission has considered an administrative error. Format of revised merit list: Name of any selected candidate will not be deleted. The Commission, while striking a balance between the agitating students and the already selected candidates, has made it clear that injustice will not be allowed to anyone during the reform process. Transparent Scorecard: The actual marks, normalized marks and category wise revised cut-off of all the candidates will again be made public on the official portal, so that there is no scope for any kind of doubt.
